AC Compressor Rebuild

Does anyone know where a new compressor can be had and if not can they be rebuilt? Has anyone here had a compressor rebuilt? My mechanic said that new ones are not available.

Hi Brian I have just rebuilt the denso aircon compressor on my 300 to use as an on board air pump, I needed to strip it to replace a noisy bearing & fill the rear with grease.

the bearing was freely available at the local bearing supplies for 8.
I did not replace any of the seals though.
the tricky bit is removing the compressor clutch without damaging the bearing housing as the split ring clip is well hidden in the bearing housing.
there was a thread on LR4x4.com about rebuilding aircon compressors

have fun
Gren

CBaldwin has a compressor. Used, but worked fine.

You can rebuild an ac compressor, not really easy and you need a couple of special tools, but it can be done. Check the web.
