Any ideas?

Blower runs, the revs go up with the activation of the AC meaning everything is getting power the air is just not cooled. Similar problems with anyone?

It's getting really hot in Nashville!

Time for a dye check of the condensor

I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.

Have you checked to make sure the clutch is engaging? The simple things first. I had a fuse go out and it stopped the clutch on the compressor from engaging.
