A/C help

Newbie to the whole Land Rover thing here.

Just bought a '95 Defender 90 wagon. Every Defender I looked at I double checked to see if it had A/C except this one which I bought sight unseen. We live in NorCal where it gets 110F.

Wife is not happy with me.

So now apparently Rover North sells them for $3,100 however can't deliver until mid July.

My questions are is there any other option to get one sooner and how hard are they to install for a fairly mechanically inclined person.

You can probably find one used here on the site, and they are extremely easy to install. Several of us have some experiences adapting tdi units for v8 trucks and vice versa. The wiring is the most complex part, and even that isn't very complex.

To start with, call George at RDS and see if he has any units at all. If you can get the underdash unit and all that stuff, then you can buy the compressor separately if you have to. I personally think you'll have it easier starting with a new, known-good unit.

Rovers North told us they did not expect AC systems until end of the summer... if at all, as the company that makes them is in trouble.

All I can say right now about new AC systems is that "I am on it", but that won't solve your price issue.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

I did something similar with my 1995 D90. Put the deposit down but forgot to check for AC. The truck otherwise was perfect. Sweated my noots off in FL without AC for 7 years and finally decided to sell it and get a 97 with AC so I could keep cool (and my wife wanted to drive and couldn't drive stick.)

Summary: If you can't get AC or decide to drive it without.... I feel your pain!

Well I asked Rovers North to put me down for one if and when they come in.

Now on to search these threads for carpet kits, vibration under load, and I'm other items that will come up to get this thing squared away.
