'97 Stereo help

Been having problems with the stock stereo in my '97 D90, so I'm thinking about either getting it fixed or replacing it and would like thoughts on going one way or the other.

For those who recommend replacing, I'm also looking for suggestions on good replacements but have some requirements. First, I'm not a good diy person, so would need something that can easily fit into the existing mounting and would not need new wiring. Second, I'd like it to work with the existing stock speakers. Third, I'd like it to work with the stock Clarion 2040 disc changer. I've read from previous threads that the Alpine Marine is a good one.

I appreciate any help that folks can provide.

Thanks much!!!

i have an alpine which was a good fit, but the buttons are small and impossible to see when driving, so be careful not to get one which is to complicated. If you go on Crutchfields web site i have been after them to add D 90 to their selector. But if you call the 800 number they are very helpful

Mike at ECR has a whole box of stock stereos for $100 each. That is the way I would go.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.

I will keep an eye on those used ones but I'm starting to really like the idea of having bluetooth. I called Crutchfields but the guy could not help me because D90s are not in their system.

So, would still love to get more recommendations and your experience installing your stereo.

Send it to Roverville to have it redone, and they will add an Ipod input too.

If you go the aftermarket route I'm 99% sure you need a VW conversion harness and it should just plug right in. I can't remember what I did about the amp under the passenger seat.
