97 NAS Alternator question

2 weeks ago, my engine was slow to start 3 mornings in a row and seemed like a dying battery. Before I could get to the weekend to check it out, this happened: I was driving on the highway for 30 min at 70 mph, as soon as I got off the ramp the engine turned off. Would not restart as the battery was basically dead. (no battery indicator light turned on). The following morning I replaced the alternator with an aftermarket from Advance Auto. I also put in a new battery to be sure. Truck turned over fine but would not start - it was getting no fuel. Turned out the fuel pump died as well. Seem to be an odd coincidence to me (alternator and fuel pump) but just tossed it up to bad luck. Car ran fine for 6 days until this morning. On my way to work, RPMs went to 0 and the battery light came on. A quick check with the voltage meter indicates alternator is feeding no power to the battery. Is this just another coincidence of bad luck with a bad alternator or is there something else that could be going on causing this. It's one thing to replace an alternator but a whole other deal to get the fuel pump replaced and I don't want to do that again!
Any thoughts?

definitely possible to get a new ,,,, bad alternator..... once a truck gets a certain amount of miles things start to go.... cant see that a bad alternator would cause a fuel pump issue,,, hot wire the pump to verify it is ok

also make sure your battery is ok...
