97 LE digital odometer issues

So I am doing a rolling resto on a 97 LE, and the odometer is missing a couple lines on some of the numbers and it seems to fade out and in a little. How do I address this? Is it repairable? I know I could order a replacement but from what I understand the needles are different and ultimately would rather retain the original gauge if possible. Thoughts? Resolutions?

I had a similar issue. Not sure if this helps...

You're talking about the digital odometer right? Send it out to North Hollywood speedometer. I've been using them since my big restoration days with Ducati singles.

I should've read your thread subject line. For speedo work, I always budgeted $250 with them. Not sure where they would be today but probably not far from that.

I can understand if you have the original speedo and want to keep it pure, but you can replace that speeds with a VDO programmable for under $200. I have a 97 digital in mine and I have to use a flashlight to be able to read the numbers for quite some time. piece of crap. waiting til the budget allows me to prioritize that vdo.

Can they set the odometer to a specific mileage? I'd consider fixing mine if I knew the fix was an ECR style permanent fix and i could set the mileage to indicate my actual transplant engine mileage, since it's a transplant from a different vehicle. (I did the mechanical to digital swap on mine).

We use North Hollywood now.
You'll need to ask them about the mileage set though (never asked).

The FL guys do the job, but they replace the guts so the speedo does a needle sweep when the ignition is turned on (like an aftermarket VDO unit does) (or at least they did the 1 time we tried them out). The factory 1997 speedo never did that, so picky people can pick up on it if you are selling. The N. Hollywood guys use the right parts so that no one can tell you have repaired the speedo.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

For the digital odometer (1997 NAS Defender) are the miles stored in the internal computer or in the odometer itself? or both? I'd like to have my odometer display fixed (rather than a replacement gauge) which will take two weeks. If I continue to drive with the speedo/odo out of the car would there be a discrepancy between the guage and the computer? Thanks, as you can tell I'm not too familiar with defender dash parts!

It's only stored in the odometer. Nowhere else.

I shipped mine to Hollywood Speedo to replace LCD. My original and accurate mileage was there when I got it back and functioning.
