97 D90 SW stuck in reverse.

Banner land rover day for the Wold family...

We were coming home from the North Georgia mountains. Me in the 97 SW and my wife and kids in the 03 RR.

On the way home the RR just turns off, everything went dead, nothing electrical worked. After checking everything and battery cables. It finally restarts, made it home without further issue. Any thoughts?

We brought two cars, so I could kayak and visit some friends. Once home, I grab the mail, put the SW in reverse so I can pull into the drive way. I am not able to shift out of Reverse. I turn the truck off, check the brake lights, they work, check the brake switch behind the brake peddle, seemed to be working. I climbed under the truck and checked the linkage, looked fine, put a pry bar on it, and it would not budge either way. I am able to get the key out, but I can not start the truck or move the gear selector. I was not able to put the transfer case in neutral either. But, I was able to tow it up the drive way. I chocked the wheels and pulled the e-brake.

Any help would be appreciated, on either issue.

I tell my wife that owning a land rover makes you stronger, ... much like the mighty oak. Wind storms, insects, blight, lightening strikes only work to make the tree stronger.

You'll be better for it, once you get it back on the road!

They are both home, but she will have to drive the Yukon XL tomorrow and she is not happy about it. Says it drives like a school bus.

Fixed... The little clip in the shifter handle popped off... Put it back together and everything was perfect.

Now to conquer the RR... All the battery cables are tight.

Mine does that every month or so. I should probably get a new clip someday.

Where is this clip you guys are talking about?

This is one '97 foible I have not had yet... so I should probably be prepared for the eventuality...

The clip is in the shifter handle. Pull/pry off the textured portion of the shifter handle, and you will see it inside. It holds down the little plastic wedge.

Even the smallest stone can slay the mightiest beast. I've wrestled with that confounded clip before. Very humbling.
