97 D90 Auto Stuck in Reverse / Won't Start

This problem is solved...thank God, but I thought I post for future searches. My wife was driving our D and she started the D, put it in reverse, backed out of the parking spot she was in, stopped, kept her foot on the brake and attempted to put the car in drive. The problem is the shifter was stuck and would not move to drive nor to park. Her instinct was to turn the car off in hopes it would somehow reset whatever was preventing the car from changing gears. However, this resulted in an immobilized D90. She would not start, was apparently stuck in reverse and the key would not release from the ignition.

And how did you solve the problem? Solenoid or fuse?

Sorry, posted too quick....anyway had to flatbed tow to the dealer. Problem was a separated "shift lever hold down clip." This is the second time my D was stuck in gear and would not start. First time was the stop lamp fuse being blown. Seems strange but it did fix it. Damn these auto transmissions seem to be touchy.

It won't shift out of Park if your brake light switch goes bad, either.
