94 shifting problems

My 94 started shifting hard two days ago. This am I checked the trans fluid- level is fine fluid looks nice and red. Checked the t-case and added about 1.5 quarts gear oil. Also checked the clutch fluid and added to top off.

Took the truck for a test drive and didn't even get out of the driveway. Will not go into rev. Tried the dif lock, and was able to go from H to N to L without problems. Seems like all I can get is 3rd and 4th.

How do I get to the shifting linkage to check for a problem there ??

Well the best way to see it is to remove the tunnle cover. If you pull up the rubber mat over the tranns tunnle there will be about 1/2 a million screws around it holding it down, once removed you can get the tunnle up and out but it's a pain as there is baerly enough room. Or you could pull out the cubby box, under the cubby there is an axis pannle, but it is behind the linkage so it is kinda hard to get to the linkage. Or crawl under the your 90 and poke your head around everything to get a look

I got the rubber mat out and was able to get the foam block and rubber boot off the shifter, all I see the the shift lever ball and the spring holding it in place, I guess the linkage is farther back.

The shift lever will not go from side to side, only up and down, 3rd and tries to get 4th but no go.

This sucks.

Follow-up Post:

I'm a dumbass, I ripped the foam to get it out, didn't see the screws to remove the trans tunnle.

Everything looks ok with the shifting linkage.

Does anyone have a diagram of the r380 trans.

Since I can actually shift into third using the clutch, I assume the clutch is OK and the problem is in the trans.

Going to drain it tomorrow and look for signs that it has failed.

bump. Any ideas on what could be jamming the shift lever and not allowing it to move ?

I've got a trailer coming tonight to take it to the dealer. They said they will check it out for $99. LR Wilmington DE

I've attempted to take out the shifting linkage and got this far, is this still part of the linkage ?

Does the diff lock lever need to be removed also ?

Other picks I've seen show this shift assembly as an LT trans, but I thought mine was a r380.

Thanks

Jon
