'94 NAS D90 radio wiring diagram?

Gentlemen:
I am needing to install a radio in a '94 D90. The original radio is AWOL (long story, someday I'll share it).

The owner wants a close approximation of the original and I have a working unit from a '95 Disco.

I need the pinouts for the original '94 radio as it is not the same as for the Disco.

None of the circuit diagrams I have show the '94.

TIA

Cheers,
PT

(yes, I searched!)

ECR has a factory 1994 radio for $100. The DI radio is not similar to the 1994 radio. The wiring is the same as a pioneer aftermarket radio, because well, that is what it was.

Thank you Ron for that insightful post that was probably accurate, but of no use whatsoever to me.

At this point, I'm merely trying to install something that looks like a Land Rover radio. What are the differences between the two that would preclude it being used in a '94 Defender?

PT,

My point was that if you search for a pioneer pin out w/colors, it is the same as the 1994 D90. I thought that would be helpful.

I have the '94 diagram at home - I'll get it and post it tonight. A '94's wiring is real simple since it didn't have an amp.

I need the '95 diagram myself and that is the only one I don't have - anyone have one? I bought one of the used radios from ECR and then realized I also need the connectors from the harness to the radio and amp...anyone?

ThanX! I need the pin out from the radio to the speakers. I believe it's the center connector.

As I was under the impression that the inputs to the amp on the '95 were speaker level, I had expected to be able to swap it directly. Let's hope that impression is correct (as I scurry off to hook a speaker up directly!).

The connectors are available from among other places, DandBSales.com

PT -

I realized the diagrams don't show the actual pin locations in the connectors. I attached what I have so hopefully that will be of some help. I guess you may already have the wiring info though.

Roverville Radio? I've bought stock harness connectors from him a couple of times.

I've got that.

The D90 uses the same connectors as the Disco radio, but the connector the Disco uses for the speakers isn't there in the D90.

The '95 uses a different head unit.

Well, that didn't work out that well. The '95 Disco head unit apparently doesn't have speaker level outputs.

Call Holly at ECR, pay the $100 and be done with it. It will be plug and play.

Sorry PT. I have a 1995 D90 amp if that helps. Actually, I think I have two of them.

Thanks, Frank for the diagram. I was having trouble finding the wiring color codes.

So from Frank's pic, it looks like:

For 1994 Defender Radio Wiring

Battery + (always hot) = purple
Ignition switched + = orange with white stripe
Ground = solid black
Light switched + = red with black stripe

I can only assume that the difference for 1995 wiring for the radio is that the Ignition Switched + is White with the Orange stripe, instead of Orange with a White stripe. I was replacing my antenna before July 4, and when I went to take the radio out, two of the connections came undone and CROSSED - the 5A fuse blew, I reconnected as I thought I should (pretty sure it was as per what I wrote above), replaced the fuse, and still nothing. The radio itself it fused with a little 10 fuse, which I visually inspected and appeared to be fine (but will be getting replaced since that's the next cheapest step before replacing the radio). Since I'm in there I want to clean everything up and I'm just trying to make sure I have everything connected properly so that I can rule out everything but the radio itself.

Have any luck with the wiring? '95 is different than '94 in some areas. I went through all the radio wiring diagrams a few years ago for my '95 and I'm a bit rusty but if you need help still let me know and I can refresh myself and figure it out for you.

Too damn hot to tackle. I meant to get out there early this AM, but it didn't happen. I pulled this out of the stock radio I've been hoarding, so at least I know I'm on the right track. What is the yellow wire though?

Darn. Still no luck. I had about 20 minutes between getting back from vacation, and having to get back to the apt for dinner tonight, and I connected my radio- Pioneer DEH P5200-HD per their diagram:

-Pioneer yellow (constant 12V) to Defender purple (always hot).
-Pioneer red (ignition) to Defender White with Orange stripe.
-Pioneer black (ground) to Defender black.

The local store was closed, so I'll pick up some additional fuses this week (plus the special 10A fuse for the radio itself) and then check for continuity once again to all of the connections I just re-connected if that doesn't work.
