'94 D90 New to forum, first post

I just purchased a '94 D90 ST (sold it to the good guys at Copley two years ago and bought it back from them). When I previously owned it I didn't get to put it through its paces. Now that I'm getting it back I intend to use it as a daily driver, keep it forever, and use it as it was intended. I'm not an experienced off-roader and I'm looking for a guide as to how, and more importantly, when to use the hi-lo transfer case and lockable diff. I'm sure than manual will explain how to engage these items but I'm looking more for a guide as to when they are best used. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to being an active member on the forum.

Only lock the diff on slippery surfaces -- mud or snow -- or if you are going to lift a wheel -- rocks, dirt roads with ups and downs etc. Never on a paved dry street. I suppose you could use diff lock in heavy rain, but i never do. Only use low off road where you should lock the diff too. Low without diff lock you can use if you are towing something really heavy on road, but is pretty pointless.

Hi Tyler,

Welcome to the board. Check out Bill Burke's trips. He is a D90 owner and a great teacher for these things. The best way to learn when to use them is through experience.
