94 and 95

Folks,
Sorry if this really vague question has been addressed before; it didn't come up in the search. Anyway, I've wanted a D90 since high school and since I have the means now, I'm going to purchase one. Right now, I'm looking at a 94 and 95, both with 60K. I'm not too knowledgable about the differences past the updated transmission and the tops being different, but I'm wondering if there is a discernable difference in the 95 versus the 94 that is worth the higher price. Thanks for any help.

James

The 95 is worth more because the doors stay open when you open them There is a check strap that clicks into place versus the 94 which has a limit strap only.

I really prefer the round lights on the 95, but thats just a preference item. There are a few little other differences - a hard top will easier to fit later if you want one because the threaded inserts are already installed in the bed rail. The computers are in different places - 94 in the kick panel area, 95 under the passenger seat.

I dont know of any practical differences except for the fact that the 94 seems to contain more obsolete parts. I'd go for the 95 all other things being equal. I'd even pay a small premium.

Most 94 have the R380 already. Late 94s have the 95 style AC otherwise the 94 AC is not quite as good.

94 tops are canvas but you can fit the vinyl top off a 95 with a kit for ~100.

Now, 94 lights are 100x better because they don't corrode like the 95s.

It depends on what you're doing with it. If you're anything like most people on this site you'll keep it forever and end up putting more 2000-2005 parts on it so in the end it won't matter what you started with. I know mine has parts from at least 3 other Defenders on this site on it and I've sent old parts to others here, so in my opinion - ehhh...whatever.
Unless it's a black 94, then get that.
