Dose anyone know anywhere that sells new gems 4.6 short block's that's cheaper then AB? I still have not ordered my engine yet, but I need to Tuesday morning...

Also about the MAF, will I need one for a 4.6 or will the ECU just adjust everything?

(side note/ I've decided not to re-chip the ECU for now, but I will go in and reset everything on it once I get everything installed.)

Update.

The 4.0 out of the truck and my new 4.6 is here ready to go in. It turns out not only were the bearings burnt but the block is cracked... Hopefully in a week or 2 the 4.6 will be up and running...

Well the 4.6 is in... But it did not go as well as I had hoped. I has hoping to be able to use my heads and everything form the 4.0 but since the old motor had not had much oil pressure almost no oil was getting to the top of the motor so everything (rocker arms, so on) has to be replaced... Still messing with the ECU and doing the finishing touches.

Also (as you should when you replace a motor or rebuild) put in a new oil pump and a new starter, my old one would every once in a while just spin and not engage when its really cold out. All new hoses and everything, and flushed the radiator. Replaced all the fluids on the truck and serviced everything. Going to give it a good cleaning and do all the small stuff like replace the burned out bulbs in the dash and stuff while we're at it.

I'll see if any other problems come up once we get the truck out and tested, but it looks like everything should be good so far.

---

On another random topic does anyone have any advice on painting the rear cross member? Mine is not rusty but its faded and just does not look as good as it used to. I think I'm going to get my front bumper and maybe my sliders powder coated while the truck is apart...

Well the swap was finished up a few days ago (and the brakes / fixing my electrical problems / cleaning / full service). There is a HUGE difference in power with the 4.6 over the 4.0. The truck not only feels like it has a lot more power but it is a lot faster. It is quicker then I thought it would be. I was not expecting it to be that big of a difference... I am very happy with the 4.6.

I've heard from people that there are problems with them running hot and stuff. I have no problems, it actually runs on the cool side like my 4.0 did.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Actually the easiest and cheapest place for me to get it was my local dealership. They were able to get it about $1,500 cheaper then if I bought it from AB. I can't remember where they said they sourced it from. But the techs there I was talking to said it was one of the nicest short blocks they had ever gotten. It was all polished and everything...
