4.11's and 33" tires?

Anyone run 4.11's with 33" tires? How do you like the combo? I currently have 4.11's with 35" tires and have been considering dropping down a tire size to balance out the look. The 35's are a littel to monster truck looking for my liking.

I run 33's SSR's with my 4.11's around town and 35's on the trail. No issues except the speedometer is off by 12MPH +/-. The truck is pretty quick too.

about 2200ish... from what I can remember. My ST stays in the garage a lot or on a trailer when I head to the trail.

If tomorrow is nice, I will take it out and exercise it and let you know.

If I remember right I do 2200 with my 35's around 65mph. Let me know what you get if you can get it out on the road. Thanks!

Let me know if you decide to get rid of the 4.11s.

i have 285/75/r16 SRR's and my stock gears make my ST more of a DOG than it was, would 4.11's bring back what power defender owners think we have

Mine seems to enough power (relatively speaking of course) and drives fine with the 4.11's and 35" tires. I am hoping 33" tires won't be to small for the gears when highway driving.

mine doesn't really see anymore Highway use anymore because of my cummins diesel truck, but the 4.11's would lower your crawl ration

I just switched from 35's to 33's on my ST. I was afraid of losing my highway gearing by the downsize, but was surprised to find that the truck responds better overall. A true comparison is tough though, as I'm running a 300tdi with a ZF and a 1.2 transfer case.

4.11's should pretty much restore the overall stock gearing with 285/75's. It is a tad bit lower overall gearing than the 3.54's and 265/75's but very close, so yes, it should restore the 'lost power' from the increase in tire size, and make it feel about like it did stock..

I have not installed them yet, but had the same concerns about getting the 4.11 gears (i run about 33" tires). But like Jim, I'm running an auto box so the end result will be slightly different. If you search the forums you'll find a thread where I ran the calculations and decided it would work (for me). Will only know for sure once I install them.

Anyone know what the overall drivetrain ratios are for a Manual vs Auto?

Follow-up Post:

Looks like there would be a 150 rpm increase going from 35's to 33's. 70mph with 35's is 2450 rpm with 33's 2600 rpms. That seems tolerable.

I run 255x85 (spot on 33's) with 4:11's and ZF Auto. Rev's are about 2800 @ 70mph. It took me a while to get comfortable with the feel and sound but I'd never go back to stock 3.54's. the biggest benefit is on long inclines. The 3.54's were dogs.

I have the ZF also, and long hill climbs are downright annoying with 285/75 and even with the stock size tire they were. I know my speedo is off , but at 75mph on the speedo the trucks at 2700 and with the flowmaster is loud

I swapped out 35s for 33s with 4.11s on my SW (ZF Auto) and did the VDO programmable speedo. I liked that setup a lot better than the 35s...I agree...it was kinda monster truckish.
