300tid/R380/LT230 Fluids

Well, it has come time for me to flush and change the Fluids in the new Engine/Tranny/transfer box..
I wanted to know what you people recomend.
Engine 300TDI,
Tranny R380
Transfer box LT230 1.4

I looked into the redLine, which is hard to get in my city..I was reading that i can use RedLine MTF, but it does not say that it is compatible with Dextron II or III. In its place is D4 ATF..

I know that this could start a war.. but i want to be informed!
thanks
craig

Texaco-MTF-94 for the R380 as the service manual states.

Get it from a local MINI dealer. They will have it in bulk for cheap, bring a container.

Hahahahaha... Just checked with my Mini Dealer for the Texaco MTF-94 and they want 6 bucks per 1/10th of a Liter
So for the Trany, that would be around $200.00 to replace the fluid every 6months to a year :O

DAMN!!

I think I paid 35$ for a gallon. It was worth it because the Mini dealer gives a free car wash (inside and out) for all service customers. So they washed the Rover....

Royal purple is similar to MTL... Dassler told me to use that in the box I got from him.

I use 5w-40 Rotella synthetic in the 300tdi
75w90 synthetic in the axles and transfercase

Redline MTL for R380, Rotella 5w40 synthetic for motor, 75w90 synthetic gear oil for LT230.

Obviously you can go with non-synthetic for the motor and LT230, but I would not run anything other than redline MTL (not mtF) in the r380.

Yes i do order all Sh!te for it all the time.. but with the oil it is very difficult to get through customs as it is a dangerous good. I live in Canada.. and have only found the one place (thanks to TJF) that sells it here. No love any where else..

Ahahaha.. somehow i don't think they would wash the d90 for me...

all good info guys... i wonder if anyone can weigh in on how our extreem temps will affect the oils..( we go from -40 to +40 through out the year.

Wow. Good site, too bad most of it is greek to me.
Is royal purple not good because it is lighter? My r380 has been shifting great after years of driver abuse

Oh, you are in Edmonton. Go to Mopac, 10448 170th St. (866) 366-6722 they will have tons of it AND at a good price.

When I first saw the thread, I thought you lived somewhere remote. You are in the big city....

I make no comment on what is better or worse, only that it is lighter...... I think any type of MTF should be a big step over an ATF as they have friction modifier to help the synchros and should offer better gear protection as well.

I've used the syncromesh. I've had better results with the mtl.
