300tdi timing belt check?

I'm at 50k mi on this timing belt and I know everyone says change at 60k but I'm getting paranoid. Is there a good way to check for wear without stripping down the front end? I would like to drive the next 10k with out anxiety.
I know I should just change it, but I'm headed back to baja soon and my list is long for the prep work, but the last thing I want is a f*#ed diesel in mexico.
Thanks all.

I just changed mine at 80k and it still looked brand new. don't know if the previous owner replaced it or not, but it's good to have the peace of mind knowing mine is new. I think it's a very laborious job just getting to it. Once you're in there, you might as well replace it.

IF your belt only has 50k I would think you are fine. What year is your engine?

Pretty sure it's a 95. this is the second timing belt. Am I just being anal... you don't think 50k is getting close? When do you generally change yours... I always thought 60k was pushing it. I'm about to drive 4,000 miles in a couple weeks, and starting to go through the list.

Im curious Randy, What interval do you go by for changing the belt?
