300TDI swap driveshaft question

Eventually I will be done rebuilding my 300TDi to put into my 86 110. I will be installing the new engine mounts and installing a R380 at the same time. My question is if the front and rear driveshafts are the same between the 2.5 Petrol LT77 and a 300TDI R380 setup. If the t-case stays in the same place, I would assume they are. My front shaft has some U-joint wear and I would like to replace it with a Woods DC shaft like I did in the rear, but if I am just going to have to replace it again, I will probably just wait.

Any ideas from the group?

Thanks in advance.

What location are, or did you install the new engine mounts? If you installed the 300 engine mounts in the stock location then I would think the shafts should be the same length as a standard NAS set up?

propery installed the 300 tdi and r380 mount well forward of the lt77 location for the lt230. The rear r380 shaft is longer than lt77 by several inches. That said if you go with the factory correct location you will need new floor plates and tunnel. You can use the lt77 location and rear shaft but it will mean mounting the engine further back and using 200tdi mounts on the 300 block and not changing the frame mounts. Thats the way many choose to go since very little gets changed.

So, the T-case moves as well? That sucks. I would like to put everything in the "correct" place after swapping the engine/tranny over.

Doug, do I only need the floor plates and tunnel, or are there other parts I should start hoarding?

I have seen some conversion kits in the UK to convert your seat box over to the R380 seatbox.

Doug, thanks for all the help. I have shifted my plan from everyone's input and am going to use the driveshafts I have in it now. So I will reuse the tunnel and floor plates?

Now, do I still use the r380 tranny crossmember that I bought? Does it go in the same location or do I need to mount the engine then drill holes for it?

So with a 300tdi and R380, I would need 200tdi engine mounts, but what about from the block to the rubber mount? Can I reuse the 2.5 petrol ones I have now?

Thanks in advance.

Daniel,
Ping Renching/Dave Bobeck. He did this and mounted the 300 further back so he wouldn't need to change his seatbox, floors and drive shafts. Pretty sure you do not use the r380 crossmember but ask Dave. With recent events my memory isn't as sharp as it used to be.
