300tdi remote oil cooler?

Hello from Down South (not george)

While driving in Bolivia a few weeks ago the little o-ring that holds the hard line which brings engine oil to the cooler disintigrated and caused us to loose all our oil. Not good but I noticed the pressure falling ands saved the motor.

We bypassed the cooler and during the time we ran with no cooler the water temperature up long grades was significantly lower (we are quite heavy, it is hot and at about 4000m). We are now considering a remote engine oil cooler.

Are there any potential problems we should consider?

Is there an out of the box option?

Is some type of thermostat required?

Thanks in advance

Ah, the reason the water temp was lower was because the oil temp was higher!

Yep, thats what I'd like to fix.
I don't think it is a problem unless running in the heat and heavy.

Any suggestions?

yup, plumb in an oil cooler. Done that several times with 300's. You can have the lines made at hydraulic shop to fit whatever cooler will work for you're aplication. I do this as generally when building bigger, better radiators I eliminate the oil cooler in the rad.

Matt- Thanks, that is what I needed.

Doug- Thanks for keeping up! Internet access has been spotty but the speed is prohibitively slow for uploading... But don't you fret I have been writing tonnes of useless banter and taking many pictures...some of beat up rovers in argentina.
