300tdi radiator/intercooler lower frame

I'm fitting a 300tdi into my 90 using a 1995 disco 1 as a donor. The discovery radiator/intercooler assy fits nicely into the defender chassis mounting points, but the top of the frame protrudes about 1" above the height of the wings and contacts the front edge of the bonnet (hood..). The locating pins that sit in the chassis rubbers are attached to top-hat brackets welded to the lower frame of the assy. Are these brackets present on a defender 300tdi? I have scoured the web for pictures, checked microcat, and my parts catalogue but cannot find a picture that shows clearly whether these lugs are fitted to the defender 300tdi.

Before removing these brackets I'd just like to check that I haven't missed something obvious.....

TIA

Mark

Follow-up Post:

This might make things clearer... The attached pic shows the radiator frame from a disco 1 dropped onto a d90 chassis. Is this the same on a OEM d90 radiator frame?

Please ignore the mess - it's a work in progress...

TIA

Go ahead and remove the brackets. The radiator frame is supposed to sit flush down on the mounts.

Thanks Buck. I take it that the locating pins are then welded directly into the base of the radiator frame?

Chop the mount down on the chassis by a little over an inch, and weld the 'top' piece back on... The disco rad is indeed taller than the defender one.

Yes. Don't change the actual frame. Just pull the extension on the bottom of the radiator support and then weld on new pins. Thats just how it is done on mine.

Done. Thanks - fits a treat.

Dave, I think the disco1 radiator and intercooler are identical. It seems that only the supporting frame is different. Apart from the lower frame, the two side frames have a mounting bracket that also needs removing for a defender fit. I guess I'll find out whether the top frame is different shortly....

That one I don't know. I would be surprised if it didn't line up, well, as much as a rover ever lines up.
