300Tdi Oil Leak

Under load, I'm loosing enough oil from the filter area that I won't be able to drive more than a few miles before it runs dry. I can't tell if it is coming from the filter gasket itself, or the mounting area since it is smart and is coming from behind the filter and junk so as not to be seen.

I had some issues on my 200tdi after a filter change. Come to find out the old filter rubber gasket had come off and remained on filter housing not letting new filter seal correctly.

Check the oil cooler lines and connections. I had an oil cooler line that was leaking at the connection between the rubber and metal parts and a lot of the oil was making its way back to the filter area before dropping off.

Could be the pressure sending unit is leaking at the plastic & metal interface crimp.

Thanks for the input, I'll see about finding where this is coming from once I've had my coffee.

This makes me wonder. Is there anything specific I need to know about changing oil in the 300Tdi? Steps to know? What not to do?

Be sure the old oil filter rubber doesn't get stuck to housing.
I use an old 1 gal. plastic milk jug with the top cut off to let the oil leak into & catch the used filter.
