300Tdi / Fan cowl / high heat

I have a 300Tdi in an 84 D90 RHD and when I got it there was no fan cowl. Now that I've installed the fan cowl, there seems to be a huge space in between my fan and cowl.It never overheats, but the temp needle pegs right before the black on the highway.

Here's a pic. Is there a way moving my engine forward or I thought of using a 200Tdi fan cowl since it is longer or even having one fabricated.

I'm kinda stumped on this one.

Any help is unbelievably appreciated!! So addicted to this website!

There is supposed to be a f
Plastic piece that is offset. Goes from the Rad shroud to encompass the fan

That's what I thought but the guys at rovers north said that's the right fan cowl for a 300Tdi. I'm pretty confused about it. Matthew, do you know where I can order the plastic piece? It looks to me that a 200Tdi fan cowl would work but RN said it wouldn't and I'm assuming the intercooler on the 300tdi radiator wouldn't be covered.

On my 300 Tdi's the fan tucks right into the plastic cowling. It looks like your engine might be sitting back a little. Your Top Radiator hose looks longer than mine. Being an 84 the 300 was a transplant so they may have moved the engine back. What transmission do you have?

I might be wrong but the transmission you have will set the engine back depending upon the bell housing compared to the R380. Some others may be able to better give you information on this. If you measure where the leading edge of your motor mounts are, compared to the spring pirtch I can measure mine for you. But I would stand to figure that youe engine is set back further than the 300 with an R380.

Looks like your motor is mounted further back. Post another pick that shows the bay.

If it is you have a couple options. Best one is to get a larger intercooler and mount the rad further back

Otherwise go custom cowl or consider an electric fan.

Regardless, you should not really need the fan on the freeway as there is plenty of air flow. Do you have a VDO guage?

they used the old LT77 trans instead of the correct r380 to go behind the 300tdi. The r380 pushes the engine forward about 8 inches or so. You can probably fit a defender 200tdi or 2.5 TD fan cowl to your present setup if you are willing to cut it to fit around your hoses and generally get creative and make things work.

Ren, Steve and Mike,

you guys rock! that's for the most part what I was thinking but I wanted to hear it from you guys as I know you have more knowledge than me and WAY more knowledge than my mechanic who thought I had a 200Tdi.

I think I'll order the 200Tdi Fan cowl and get creative!

Thanks again guys!
