300tdi alternator/vacuum pump

The 300tdi vacuum pump is notorious for leaking. Mine is leaking out of the rivets and while you can drill the rivets out, clean it up and put a gasket on and bolt it back up I would still like to see if anyone has fitted the 2.8 alternator/vacuum pump to their 300tdi engine and run the vacuum from there. Would also be nice for the LHD trucks as its more direct. The only downside is I think it needs an oil line.

I was PMing with Mark (Overlander) about getting some measurements. I think it should clear the downpipe.

Would anyone have a part number reference for one of these alternators?

I still have my old oil feed line that supports the turbo and vacuum pump so i can give you measurements on that

I have one that I pulled off of mine that leaks that I can send you if you'd like. You can rebuild that off the vehicle then swap it in. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer but I have mine as a spare. It was leaking a lot and will seal it back up for later

My 2.8 parts catalogue calls the alternator out as 74196 (Maxion part number). It is a bosch unit (F009LD0115) and they are very expensive. Right now I think my pump is failing as something is clacking quite loudly from that immediate area.

There is another option I have begun to look at that uses the pumping action of the steering pump to create boost for the brake system.
