300 Tdi thermostat in a 2.25 petrol?

Will a 300 Tdi thermostat work in a 2.25 petrol engine? Curious if this set up will function correctly.

nope, they are different.

any british car shop will have the right stat for your truck. there is a ford one that fits but it is not ideal.

Just FYI, your 110 has a 2.5 petrol thermostat.
It has a 300 Tdi temp gauge and a 300 Tdi temp sender.
The Tdi temp sender is the only "non 2.5" part on the engine.
If you suspect the thermostat is the issue, it shouldn't be as it was new Genuine, then replace it with the same type 2.5 petrol thermostat that is currently in the engine.

Just FYI, you have the 2.5 petrol, not the 2.25 petrol

Thank you for the clarification. I was going off the serial number stamped in the block, and the year of the truck to determine that I had a 2.25 vs the 2.5.

Block serial number 11H06288

http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/engno.htm block number decoded

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Defender sates that 1983-1985 had 2.3L petrol motors, 1985-1993 had the 2.5L motors.

Best to think of it as the 2.5 (unless you need to order crank bearings or something)
Here in the US when you order parts for a 2.25, say a carb or something, you will get parts for a 1960-1970s Series truck, and that isn't what you have.
You have the 2.5 style 2 bbl carb, the 2.5 style thermostat neck and all.
So if you are speaking to a parts supplier that has Mircocat and can look up your 110 by VIN then you can tell them it is a 2.25 and give them the VIN and the block # and they will send you the right parts.
If you are speaking with the typical parts guy and tell them you have a 2.25 (they will assume its the more common Series Rover type) and you will get parts sent to you that do not fit. Not a lot of parts guys in the US have had their hands on the late 2.25s that are all dressed up like 2.5s, so its a matter of how you make sure you get the right parts.
We have your truck saved in our Microcat system, so if you are looking for part #s, just ask.
