Since the 200 & 300's have their origin as Ford diesel tractor engine, I wonder if there is a starter available from a tractor supply shop here in the US ?

Wikipedia...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_engines says Rover designed the engine from scratch.

Im trying to figure out if this starter (Starter Motor Ref: NAD500210) would work on my 300 tdi.
I would just like someone to confirm this so i don't purchase the wrong one.

Yes, that is the part number for a 300TDI starter. The older part number is ERR5009.

Here is a good place to look up part numbers: http://www.allbrit.de/NAV.cfm?PAGE=338365&SPRACHE=EN

thanks. Does the brand matter? I saw a 300 tdi starter , part # :NAD500210. (brand :allmakes) for $181 US.
Do different brands work better/worse than others? I appreciate the advice.

Getting an OEM (new or rebuilt) is probably the safest. Bosch or Valeo (Lucas). But it will cost a lot more. I'm not sure what people's experience has been with the no-name brands.

A lot of place give both options.

Search for NAD500210G or ERR5009G (adding the G indicates OEM for a lot of suppliers). NAD500210E will mean Recon to some.

For info...

ERR5009N,which is a Britpart starter is actually one of Britpart parts that actually work well.

I have been using this cheaper than original part for many years on various LR's when replacement time arrived. Just an idea if you don't want to get fleeced by a main stealer....
