HOW are they makinfg them for that money???

Well, I know how - using cheap chinese Cores.

But that's not to say they are bad - they are likely a damn-site more efficient than the stock intercooler. And that's the point, if you are on very limited space, and need the most efficient unit for your application (with the internal area, pressure drop and ambient flow area optimised) then a pukka core from Garrett or other quality manufacturers is where you have to spend money.

In our trucks, there is a ton of space for this intercooler compared to others, so whilst it isn't (maybe) a premium core, the efficiency and sheer size makes it work. By comparison, the only reason the TD5 intercooler works is its huge size - the core is the worse design in the world EVER.

I am curious about who did the initial investigating into making the intercooler single or double pass, side or top feed - all of which differ in application, as well as the engine type. I would really like to see the internal turbulators of the ebay unit - but for $150 it sure looks functionally superior over the factory unit.

BTW - I've spent a lot of time playing with intercoolers previously, none on landrovers though - and none on diesels... Have looked at loads of (OE & aftermarket) cores and pulled many apart.

It's a double pass with an obvious seperator in the inlet/outlet tank.
It's definately homegrown but the core looks to be of reasonable quality.
Really it has to be loads better that stock and for $180 delivered it will be fun to play with.

I had my stock IC out to clean and held the new one up to the rad, it will fit fine just some brackets, I won't really have time to play until the TD5 is done in the Disco.

This is what I put in my 200 tdi with a disco recored double pass honeycomb radiator. The silicone runs through the stock intercooler location and am running the v8 fanclutch and shroud with 3 inch exhaust and one resonator. Only time she runs hot is in the mountains. still need to install egt and mechanical temp guage and probably electric fans

Haven't yet, but my front end is torn down enough that I can see what's what. It'll fit (just, it appears) in front of the radiator, but you'll need to fab up brackets mimicking the original ones. They'll need to fit in line with the right hand bracket and lightly inboard of the left. You'll also need the rubber bushings as well as some sort of seal to fit between the intercooler and the radiator.

Speaking of, what do used stock 15k mile 300tdi intercoolers go for?

What do you mean by "deal?" I have an intercooler that is ancillary to necessity.

I'm running one of these and can't get the egt's above 950 on a long uphill grade so the must work pretty well.

Check with some of the vendors like Pendy and Matt at Overland engineering. They probably have some in stock in the US.

I just found out about www.siliconehose.com
What are the dimensions of the hose I need for the 300Tdi with a full width intercooler?

How is this fan attached? I am just curious because when I ordered new fans for my 110 LR sent these. I assume these were installed in later defenders and LR just superceded the number to the new style. Anyway, I made some custom brackets to mount the two of these up front but in several pictures I have seen, it looks like people are just bolting them through the core. Is that what you guys are doing with these face mount fans?

Already have upped the fuel and boost a bit. The highest I have gotten it is 1000 degrees.
