3.9 Fuel Pump Relay internittent failures
on 3 occasions, when i go out to start my 3.9 rover the fuel pump relay won't come on. two of the times the engine had been running, third time it was from a cold start. not sure what is going on. on saturday, it happened while out on a latte run, and after monkeying around with the relay in the parking lot, i got it to reset (i think - heard a click after poking at the terminals with a test lamp) and then turned the key and it worked just fine. it also seemed quite warmer than normal to the touch.
my fuel pump is sounding a bit noisy - i will replace filter this weekend...pump is quite new. the first 2 failures happened about a month apart...the latest failure was about a week apart...
a thread on a jaguar site had a few comments that a dying/overworked fuel pump will draw too much current, heat up the relay and it will not open/close properly, causing intermittent issues.
Could my fuel filter be getting bogged down, overworking the pump and eventually causing the relay to fail?
Anyone have experience with this on a rover?
