24 spline conversion

I just wanted to throw out a question. I will search forums later for more info. Looking at drop in center sections truetrac and Detroit 24 spline. They will come with 24 spline axles. All coming out of a 97 d90. Are these drop in on a 86 110. Or pre 92 110's.

Rear is a Dana 60 style R&P so it will not fit as the 97 is the drop out 3rd and 100% different. What you already have the in rear can be built up nice and solid for not too much money.

That is pretty obvious I should have looked at the rear didn't realize the 110 are drop out. So the rear is out of the question.

Front?

Thx

On the front, it will work. You will need aftermarket 24/23 spline inner half shafts. If the shafts that are coming with it are the later stock 24/32 spline, they won't be of any use.

As Dave says the rear axle is a Salisbury / Dana 60 center, so that won't work. You can get a Detroit for it, if you want though.

Just to add to Red90's post, the issue in the front is that the 10 spline front shafts are two parts

Halfshaft: 10 spline to 23 spline at the CV
CV: 23 spline to 24 spline at the hub.

The problem is that Rover never made a factory 24-spline halfshaft which is 24 spline at the diff and 23 spline at the CV. All factory Rover 24-spline halfshafts were 24 spline at the diff and 32 spline at the CV.

So if you want to convert your front 10-spline diff to a 24-spline diff, you need a custom build front halfshaft which adapts from 24-spline to 23 spline (Ashcroft, KAM, etc). These are not cheap.

Here's the good part: The early 23/24 CV in your truck is actually the strongest CV made by the factory, so the resulting components up front are plenty strong.

Did 1997 D90s have any changes to rear 3rd member from previous 90 models. I know different motor and trans, but just want to ensure they are all interchangeable.

I have 10-spline front diff. You recommend just staying with the stock setup then?

Mind you, I'm not the best person to ask.

My opinion:
  • 1. Do you want a front locker?
    • a. Yes:
      • - Buy 24 spline locking diff
      • - Buy Ashcroft 24-23 spline front halfshafts
      • - Done.
    • b. No:
      • - Stick with the stock front and don't change anything.

So if you want to convert your front 10-spline diff to a 24-spline diff, you need to get the guts out of a 93-95 RRC axle. These are plentiful and cheap.
Fixed it
