Thumbs down 200tdi with no engine numbers

I'm semi commited to buying a 200tdi engine in the UK. I've found out that the engine serial number has been taken off the motor. My question is whether this will be a problem once it gets to the states? specifcally NY state. He claims the salvage yard to bought the truck from removed the number.
thanks,
Tomaco1

All I can say is that the path your proposing....buying a TDI, site unseen from someone you don't know, with no reputation....has resulted in more people with dud engines than than you would care to know.

Not saying this is the case, but the proportion of dishonest to honest British car parts dealer is a large double digit figure....

Must be a stolen motor. I wouldnt buy it, there is no reason to remove a number but for bad reasons.

If the seller is saying that, who knows what condtion the engine is in as he may be lieing about that too.

If it get looked at during shipping it may get taken away as stolen goods.

Thanks, thats what I was thinking. It was an ebay thing, I only heard about the lack of numbers from another guy in the UK who looked at it. I just need to confirm with the seller, and the guy who was going to ship it!

i have blown it off, I contacted the guy and he ignored my question about the missing number, waited a week and then asked me when I was going to pick it up.
shady to say the least!
Daniel, if thats the motor that Doug told me a out, thats the way I'm going to go, I'm not in a hurry anyway.

thats the one that was supposed to go to guam or something like that, right. I really only need rad to clutch, but if the price isn't much differnt I could do the whole deal.
