200TDI VS 3.9L for towing

Looking at 2 different 90's. One with a 200 TDI and the other with the V8.
I have a boat that weighs about 2600 lbs. Would either have an advantage over the other ?
I would perfer the one with the V8. ( much better condition )
But, if the diesel would be better, than i will take that one.

You need the v8. The boat you propose trailering isn't all that much, but for launching you want the v8 punch.

I don't know about that... I personally have towed with both and the tdi doesn't have the same top end road speed but its low end power and acceleration when towing is stronger.

The main difference given your criteria is that if you want to add significant power just dropping a 4.6L block and performance head into the V8 chassis with megasquirt is fairly straightforward.
