/should/ have a pair of lifting rings bolted to the head/block

can't remember now if they actually use a head bolt, or a couple of castings in the head/block area.

You'll get away easily just making up couple of bent (90 degree) 5 or 6mm plates and using 2 opposite head bolts. as long as you re-torque them correctly you'll be good to go.

I would not lift from a head bolt. There are threaded bosses as Jim says front and back that are used to hold the factory lifting rings. You don't need the rings, just use any bolt that fits those holes and a big washer through a link of your chain. Or if you want to be a bit less cavalier than that you could make up your own lifting tabs and bolt those on. No need whatsoever to undo head bolts just to hoist the engine up.

I actually already fabbed up some out of 3/16 steel. Just wanted to make sure the bosses on the front and back of the head were for that pupose. They seemed a little small but after a test lift all is fine.

Yeah, they're not as heavy as you think really, not unless you're pulling the entire drivetrain out intact.
