200Tdi head gasket coolant leak

Just discovered a leak from the head gasket spewing a pretty significant amount of coolant. I have an amateur question: the beginning of the leak coincided with my cranking the cabin temperature all the way up (presumable allowing more coolant flow through the heater circuit). Is is possible from some gunk to have dislodged from the heating circuit and blocked the coolant circuit causing an overpressure of some sort and therefore the head gasket leak. Are the two events purely coincidental? Note that truck is not overheating. Thanks.
