200tdi Fuel Filler Cap Part Number needed

Lost (probably stolen) fuel filler cap for my 200tdi. Looking for a new one but don't know the correct part number. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Do a search and you will see that there two different ones, early/two prong expansive and three prong/ cheapo

or change to an series filler

what did the cap look like? metal or plastic?

the metal cap that came with my 84 was $100 for the replacement. when I switched out the rusted tank for the one off my 88 TD, I had to switch to the later style filler with the plastic cap. where when was the last time you filled up? do they have the cap?

It was a metal cap for the 1984, picture for fuel filler shown below. Last fueled up in my parking lot with the remainders of what was in my jerry cans. Unfortunately, no sign of cap anywhere.

So I take it yours had no locking tabs on it? if so you will be hard pushed to find other than new from the UK $$

NRC9572 is the part number, as mentioned in earlier posts.

I'm weighing the options at the moment.

Unless I can find one cheap here, it looks like a better long-term solution is to go with:

filler neck - NTC2676

which lets me use locking, tethered plastic caps.

What's the advantage of using the series filler neck?

No locking tabs. It was smooth-topped as shown below:

Is PN #504655 interchangeable with NRC9572?

Never mind, found an older post by Roverman saying it's not:

Yep, thats what was there when I shipped to you.

I might have a series filler assembly in deep storage if you're stuck. Yours for not a lot of money + postage. I'll have a look.

The filler would have been for a 1984 petrol vehicle.

I think a later tdi one will fit but you'd need the complete assembly.

ugh...never mind. I thought about switching to WLH100570, but it fits via grommet and not the 4 bolts found on the early defenders.

damn- thought I had asked you about that one. I'll take it if Ed doesn't

Ed- I have the smooth cap linked brand new and can't use it. I bought it think it would work in place of the series and 83-84 type and won't.

Thanks dave, if you have NRC9572, I will definitely take it!

If it doesn't fit my application, you're definitely next in line, Doug.
