Ryan are you sure your EGT gauge is accurate? And his?
Swap gauges and see if there is a difference.

Also the trucks that can pass you, what are their EGT readings under the same conditions? Are they the same set up? Weight , intercooler,ect...

Anything air flow related changes the egt equation, including air filter.

A tuned engine should easily get to 1250. The point is the operator should know when to back off for a second or two or downshift to drop temps. To me the bigger issue is when a diesel cannot get to 1250. Tires size, gearing, weight of the truck, aerodynamic drag (roof rack etc) all effect the load on the engine and egts.

We are both using a VDO Vision series gauge and probe mounted in the collector of the manifold. No reason to believe there is a problem with either gauge. As far as the 300tdi 110s with more ability to pull hills. One is 600+ lbs heavier then me but has a much more aerodynamic rtt. The other has no rtt and was prob 500 lbs less then me. I am really not too concerned about mine although it would be great to find a way to get the egts down with no loss in power. My main point is/was to use mine as a point of reference as we tune Werraa's disco 200.

Is the fuel filter in Anthony's truck fresh/recently replaced ? Have his injector tips been replaced (every 80k or so) ?

Tips were just replaced and pop adjusted at local bosch injection shop. Filter is probably newer then mine (I am approaching 10k on this filter). Wouldnt hurt to freshin his filter but we are able to get black at full throttle/full boost so I would assume it is flowing enough fuel to satisfy the fip.

Full open 3" exhaust with no mufflers. That was a great suggestion and I didnt indicate what I had done with exhaust.
