200tdi cyclone breather/vent line

Why is it that some engines disco or defender have the cyclone breather and a separate vent line from the valve cover and some engines/valve covers only have the cyclone breather and no bung for the other breather?

I am very curious as well. Seems like there is one crankcase vent with an engineered "oil removal" cyclone and yet the other just dumps crankcase oil right back into the breather box. WHY????

additional breather hose connecting the crank case with the upper end, providing improved breathing to the lower crankcase? perhaps an attempt to cut down on leaks and improve pull through the cyclone perhaps allowing it to work better?

I plan to run both vents to an aftermarket baffled oil catch-can and outlet the fumes to a "road-tube" and see how things go. Crankcase ventilation was handled in a similar manner for decades. I can always re-attach the plumbing to the breather intake if I need to. No emmissions tests here, so not worried about inspections.
