Hello

I strongly recommend you to ask for a 300Tdi engine and
not a Td5, it's much more simple, drinks less fuel, no ECU
and all that for only 9 BHP less.
You will be able to get ROW specifications. I got myself
a 2005 D90 with 300Tdi engine, no ECU, no ABS, no
power windows, no central locking... just A/C.
You will probably have to wait about 4 months for
delivering, so you can plan quietly all modifications
you want to do.

Can't help you with a new Defender, but you'll enjoy Ecuador. My Sister was in Quito for three years and when I'd visit her I was amazed at all the Rovers there. Especially older Series. I think that's where they go to die. Plus, there's quite a few volcanos to climb and they're taller than anything here!

Jaime Crusellas might be able to help you out. He's on Dweb and has a summer home in Ecuador along with a Mitsu.

It's the same here, full of old series, but we try not to let them die
