200 tdi, same concerns?

I didnt want to hijack the 300tdi for sale thread, but became concerned as to wether i could run into the same issues, "ecu"non "ecu" with a 200tdi that i am in the process of bringing into the states?

I don't think the 200Tdi's had ECU's at all. They were introduced on the 300Tdi's around '97 I believe.

200 tdi ...

It's all mechanical no worries there but you have to check between the Disco 200 Tdi and the Defender 200 Tdi differences.

200 tdi engines far the defender and discovery are different, The block is the same as is the flywheel casing, everything else id=s different - front casinf , turbo and exhaust/ inlet manifolds. the fan is in a different place.
The defender turbo is above the inlet manifold, the discovery engine has the turbo below the inlet manifold.
The discovery engine doesn't bolt straight into a defender, the defender engine does.

Tom,

No worries. The 200 tdi Defender engine has a single wire to a fuel solenoid on the back of the injection pump.
This is what turns it off when you turn the key off. The wiring harness for the 200 tdi engine will plug directly into the wiring harnes in your truck with no further modifications (just did this last week). The only other wiring connection is the positive battery cable to the lug on the starter.

Doug

200 (disco) and 300 make same hp and torque in factory form. 200 defender engine is rated a little lower.

I like the 200 in my truck:O)
I did the disco version as the defender ones were hard to come by. Sorry if the 300 for sale thread made anyone nervous, i am going to retrofit it w/ mechanical ip and injector. also here are pics of the disco 200 in my truck

So I guess its not a dumb idea to put a 200 in a NAS truck... I was thinking of doing this by the way.

I hope not, I have a 200 coming, but then again mines not a NAS! I drove a 110 with a 200 today, huge difference, but mine is a 2.5 petrol.
Thanks for the pics,

Biggest difference with putting the Disco vs the Defender vs the 300 into a Defender is with the Disco motor you end up with some considerable fiddling and fabrication, which is fine but I seem to end up with all kinds of odd installs that need considerable work to correct.

Disco 200 tdi's are easy to find and cheap to buy. Parts for 200's are harder to get and more expensive (probably why they were improved by accountants eh Mike?).

I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but 200's are difficult to get leak free....it allways seems to be coming from somewhere. I have had no such issues with 300's.

Should a 300 been available on my bugdet I would have gonethat route. Matt is sorting out some of those above mentioned fabrication issues(i was lucky as a friend did the install and had the steering shaft fabbed and figured out the plumbing). i also bought another motor for spares,so yes Matt is on track I guess. I do love that 200 though pulls on hills & trails in a way my cammed 3.9 never did, but all of my vehicles are diesels, even my wifes Jeep Grand Cheokee.
