Leak free is the way. Even my Series truck doesn't leak, and the 300 damn sure doesn't although it did a little from the factory but wasn't hard to cure.

200's can be fairly dry it is just a challenge on occaison.
Steve, you're rig isn't bad at all. Some of the rigs that have shown up recently have been just sad....and I'm not really that picky.

My 300 leaked after 2000 miles from the oil pan. I resealed it and all is well at 10k. Is the 200 a real bad leaker?

I want to install one in a NAS 90...

Can someone elaborate on the fiddling and fabbing needed when putting a disco motor into a defender? And also if there are differences for LHD vs RHD vehicles.

The discorery 200 had a long bell housing and the defender had a short bell housing. I think the turbo fouls on the bulkhead and the injection pump is very close to the steering pump. but if you're using a long bellhousing the problems might go away.

Charles,

on a rhd truck the only issue with the disco engine is that it requires a custom down pipe be fabricated. The downpipe can be cobbled together but a company named Steven Parker in the Uk makes the down pipe as well as a kit for the air filter housing and intercooler pipes. So it can be made look very correct. The issue with putting one in a lhd truck is that the turbo/and down pipe are in the way of the steering shaft coming from the column to the box. Weisbrewer's truck has a one piece shaft that clears the turbo in his NAS 90 so it can be done. The Defender engine has none of these issues. The defender engines are more rare than the disco setup and bring more $$$ in the UK. You can buy 300 tdi's for less than the 200 defender setup in the UK.
Rover @ one point actually made a diy kit with a part number to retrofit the disco engine into the defender due to the popularity of this conversion.

Yeah I'm nowhere near doing a diesel swap but was just pondering the options. Seems to me the best choice for me would be the combination that provided the best value and best options for parts/maintenance in the future. Unless I am misunderstanding this thread, this sounds like a disco 300tdi.

there is no difference between a disco or a defender 300 tdi engine- until you get to the fly by wire engines.
