200 TDI injector leak

I go the 110 back yesterday. Driving it today I got strong smell in cab of diesel. Pop bonnet and the second one in from the front of the motor is "frothing" at the base of the injector. I tightened the nut on the bracket, which seemed to help, but not stop the leak. Drove it home and popped the bonnet, the injector was now dry, and no longer obviously leaking.

I have let it sit for an hour or so. I just restarted it, and nothing, no leak.

The frothing was from the base of it when it was doing it. I will take it back out later to see if it will do it again but in the meantime. Thoughts?

You know you drive a Land Rover when you're still skeptical after fixing it.

ROFLMFAO!

Yep. I am headed out to Mendo in a couple weeks with this truck. If this "frothing" is a sign of something larger, I want to find out now and either carry spares or "fix" it, so I can continue being skeptical.

Just got back from drive and still dry. So maybe I can relax and work on some of the other bits that need attention.

I would pull the injector and replace the crush washer. Also check your return lines. They tend to vibrate loose or crack due to heat over 29 years. Replace with fresh lines. Pull, cut to size, replace and repeat.

I bought some Viton hose to replace my return lines as my return lines are "wet". I only replaced 1 so far that was in the way of the air cleaner set up, but the fit was right.

If anyone has a good jubilee clip suggestion for these, please chime in. Can it just be a spring clamp on the return line?
