200 TDI HD Alternator

Anyone knows a part number / brand ( i.e. Marelli .. ) for a HD - 100 amps for a Defender 200 Tdi?

A source where to get it?

Thanks

I've done a bit of research on this and not found anything available in North America that will fit on the stock mounts and in the stock location without hitting anything. One of the ones sold for the Disco engine could be clocked, which is what people have been doing in the UK. Unfortunately it does not seem to be available anymore. I have a different one coming from an alternator place in the UK in a container soon that they guarantee is the right fit. I'll post up part numbers when I get it only if it works....

Gustavo, measure mounting points distance and try Iskra.
They have a distributor in the US.
I put an Iskra AAK5326 in my 300, so far so good, 35
additional amps.

The mounting size, type and size of alternator is the same as the 300TDI. The adjusting ear is on the left instead of the right, which is the problem. 100 Amp alternators for the 300TDI are easy to find as they are stock in Discos.

Do you not have to modify either the alternator (remove 1 ear) or the engine side of the mountings (this is what I've done to several) to fit the 100A Disco alternator to the 300tdi?

Back to the subject......I seem to remember modfiying the adjustment bracket of a 200 (Disco) motor to use a V8 alternator which had to have its pulley changed to v-belt. I have photos somewhere

Gustavo- keep in mind the engine wiring harness is for the 45amp stock alternator. If you go 100 amps you'll need to upgrade that as well.

Doug, I thought stock was 65 not 45.

If I need to upgrade that then I mind as well forget about the idea.

I was only doing that based on Dual Batteries and 4 Hella 4000.

I guess I will just have to keep it like it is

Thanks

You only need to upgrade 1 wire, and if you cheat straight back to the starter solenoid it isn't very long. You can even leave the stock wire in place and add a wire.

Just 1 wire? I like that idea ( as long as I don't fry the truck *LOL* )

Just unwrap the engine loom. It is obvious then. Replace the wire (or 2 wires depending on the loom) from the alternator to the starter. Use a single 4 gauge cable.
