19J smoking and low on power

The 2.5TD in my 110 is giving me a hard time. It started with the tank pressurizing and starting with lots of white blue smoke and low power in 2nd to 5th gear.

The boost diaphragm was completely ripped so I replaced it with a new one but it didn't solve the problem. It's still smoking on start up and irregular puffs at idle when it gets warm. It also just bogs down at higher rpm in 2nd to 5th.

Suggestions on what to look for next.

Thanks

Could be a ton of things. You need to go through check everything out.

Air and fuel filters good. Lift pump good. Timing good. Injectors good. Check those first in that order.

It would run Ok on the flats with a bad lift pump.

I'd start with John's recommendations of checking air, fuel filters, but also check for boost leaks.

A torn hose or loose hose clamp will cause what you are describing (losing power and black smoke under throttle)

Also, smoking on start up and an odd puff here are there are not really unusual, unless it is laying down a full smokescreen on start up.

Could you describe the color of the smoke? Is it always blue? White? Black?

Could also be a headgasket. Are you noticing any coolant consumption?

I did't get around to working on the truck until today. Air filter looked clean. Replaced the fuel filter and that solved the issue. I took it out for a drive and the smoke (blue) cleared up after a couple minutes and didn't come back.

Thanks all
