1997 NAS Odometer

My odometer on a 1997 NAS D90 has been working intermittently since I bought the truck two years ago. Recently it has gone blank and doesn't look like it's going to fix itself. Does anyone know any tricks to get this back on? I'm thinking about selling the vehicle in the spring and working odometer would be nice. Any input would be helpful

Thanks

there is also a place in Fort Lauderdale. More than likely any good speedo shop that repairs LCD displays.

I will probably jinx myself by saying this. Mine went blank years ago also and I read it was due to the ribbon wire so I turned (cocked sideways) the speedo to stretch the wire out. It started coming back soon thereafter and it has been doing well up until this post. I've slowly turned the speedo back into normal position.

I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to repair on your own based on what the pic look like, assuming you could find a suitable ribbon cable.

Ours was horrible (the display), but then I had the dash off to replace the ignition switch and unplugged a bunch of the connections... since I put it all back together it's been working fine.

North Hollywood fixed mine 4 or so years ago. Been solid ever since. I found that the humidity made it worse.

Can the odometers be reset, or set to a specific mileage by these shops when doing the repair? mine came from a different D and I'd like to have it match the mileage of my engine for ease of maintenance schedule.

I just went through this on my truck. I sent it off to North Hollywood Speedo after reading several recommendations on here.

I sent it off via UPS from Monterey to Hollywood. About 2 days later they called and said it would be $265.00. I gave the verbal go ahead and they said they would get started. To my surprise they called a day later and said it was done. I was stoked to have it done so quickly. I paid over the phone and they said it would ship that day. I expected to see it a few days later.

A week later I had no speedo. I got a call saying it had been sent to the wrong customer, the customer noticed and sent it back. They assured me it would be send out immediately overnight UPS.

A week later I had no speedo. So I call them and ask where it is. They had no idea but would investigate and call me right back. Later that night a tech called and asked me what was wrong with the speedo and if I wanted it repaired under warranty work. I had to explain the whole situation and asked him to let them know it needs to come back to me immediately. He said he would relay the message and it would ship in the morning.

A week later I had no speedo. So I call them and now I am losing patience. Apparently there was another mix up and it was sitting on a desk. So they said they would box it up and ship it overnight to me. I am still waiting. I just hope it works when I get it.

If you are not stuck on having the original one, a new VDO one is $142....

VDO Vision Black Speedometers (electronic) - eGauges.com

Pretty easy to run up the mileage on your own if you want.

I like hearing it's pretty easy to run the VDO speedo up to match the take out unit. Can you send to link or discussion on this please? I am making that swap this winter.

I made a simple script to run on a raspberry pi to send a pulse to drive the speedo at max speed. It takes a while to add the miles but gets the job done. If you don't mind it taking weeks to months (depending on the mileage to add), I'd be happy to do it for you.

Just find a 12v ac power supply and hook it up. You should have one around somewhere that you can borrow.
