1997 Defender purchase

Hi, I have been lurking for years. I am finally taking a serious look at a 1997 Defender. I found a solid looking vehicle and wanted to know if anyone here was familiar with it. http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/2015307751.html

Thanks to everyone that takes time to post information here. It is an enormous help.

What interests you in this one over others if you've been looking for so long? Just curious. Is it the red SW thing, or something else?

We spoke about it a few months ago.

I guess he was wrong about the whole "won't be for sale for long..." thing. Been over 6 months at this point. :-)

proximity (hour drive), condition/price, color. Red has grown on me. Favorite is willow green, but not willing to pay premium for it.

His ad does have some amusing hyperbole, but it looks solid from the additional pictures he sent. Haven't seen it in person yet.

Looks lifted to me, are you hell bent on a 97?? What are you looking for specifically?

no, definitely not locked in on a 97, just leaning toward it. Looking for a SW in willow green, red, or white in good condition. Auto is preferred in case wife needs to drive it (unfortunately).

Id be glad to ride down with you and check it out, I am in Raleigh and you are welcome to drive a mental 95 for comparison. the 97 imo is a completely different animal compared to the 95's. A manual D-90 is an easy truck to learn, my sister could drive it and she can barely drive a automatic.
