1997 D-90 Tensioner ?
In the last 5 days my 90 seemed to have trouble starting. Today it barely cranked over so I assumed it was the battery and stopped by autozone. They did a battery check and it read as ok but was putting out very low amps. The machine did not recommend a replacement but just a charge. The rep then look under the hood and I started the engine. He noticed that the tensioner pulley bounced around a bit. Then after a minute or so it stopped bouncing and ran smooth. He claims that this is the problem. If there is not enough tension on the pulley, the belt slips and then the alternator will not charge the battery correctly. He said that the only thing I need to do is replace the tensioner assembly. Does this sound like a correct assessment? He quoted $100 for the complete assembly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
