Unhappy 1995 D-90 Ecu (amr3947)

I have a 1995 Defender 90 Hard top (369/500) and the ECU (AMR3947) has failed. Land Rover tells me that that there are no more available. Dose anyone know of anyone that can rebuild the ECU or has one in stock?

There should be companies repairing these. After all it's simply a little computer - fix the damaged circuitry and reload the eprom.

If all else fails you can do Megasquirt. Lucky bastard!

I called BBA-Reman, they do not work on Landrover ECUs anymore, and don't have any in stock. This is the same thing I heard from all the rebuild that I found on the web.

I'm having trouble finding a cross reference for that number, so here are a couple more questions for you. Does your engine have a distributor Distributor? And also, on top of the mass-air sensor does it say 5AM or 20AM? Also, does the ECU have another label that says 14CUX on it? Land Rover had a few various part numbers for various ECU's, most of which are functionally the same.

Click on this link, and let me know which one yours looks like, and we can let you know what to get.

Here are another couple potential sources, though expensive.

Just be careful if you buy from E-bay, as I've seen a lot of mislabeled Discovery ABS computers that say they are engine computers. If it's stamped WABCO on it, it's NOT what you want.

You may want to try Bill's European in Santa Fe. (505) 471-3399. He may have what you need.

If it is a 14CUX (like my 94 3.9L was) any ECU from a 94 95 disco, or rangie wiht the 3.9L are all the same. I went through this a while back. I just found this one:
http://www.roverlandparts.com/index....OD&ProdID=1455

This is what I found from a pick and pull alst time I needed one. Also try posting on disco web and see if any of the guys over there have a used one they woudl give up. Just a reminder this is only if it is the 14CUX! all the part numbers can be skrewie on rovers, my MAF on the truckl was the same as a 93 rangie... wierd.

my mass air says 5am
and the ecu does not say on it if it is a 14cux
but the guy who works on it from landrover says it has to be and that he is positive of it

on the ecu all the other info on it reads as follows:

amr3947r

lrz262

36544801

remanufactured by delfi deisel

thats everything i could find on it

Follow-up Post:

The only company that I have found that will work on it is:

AutoCraft Microsystems, LLC

Engine Control Units Direct Division

233 Tresca Road

Jacksonville, FL 32225

United States of America

1.800.685.1925

I have been talking to Dave at Ex#107

Plus they put a life time warranty on it

I've been running an ecu from a 95 disco for about 6 years now -- much easier and cheaper to find than a defender one.

Or...

...Put a HS2.8L in and not have to worry about it at all.....not exactly the cheapest route, but....

I would strongly recommend avoiding ECU Direct (Autocraft Microsystems - ecudirect.com) at all costs. They claimed to remanufacture my faulty '99 WJ ECU for several hundred dollars and I paid to have it reinstalled by a mechanic. Hundreds of dollars of diagnostics later (dealer couldn't find the problem, had to go to an electronics specialist), I find out that they never fixed it. I sent it back for them to repair again and they couldn't even find the problem. Ultimately, they told me that if I spent an extra $100 they'd send me a different one so for $100 more, I finally got one that works. All in all, it cost way more than even full list price at the dealer! When I had their tech support on the phone, they were very deceitful about their testing and remanufacturing practices and even tried to convince me it couldn't be the ECU but was an incompetent mechanic. Needless to say, I won't ever buy from them again. Save yourself the money and headache and get an ECU from the dealer.
