1990 Defender (200 TDI) - Few questions from a newbie

Just bought a 1990 Defender w/200 TDI. Arrived yesterday.

I also have a 1973 Series III petrol, but the diesel is new to me.

Few questions:
1. What repair manual do you recommend?
2. Driver window will roll up half way. Before I take it apart anyone have this issue and have some advice?
3. Truck is from England and I am in Denver. 25 degree today. It runs very rough and won't idle smoothly. Do i need to make adjustments for the elevation, cold temps, or could it just be old fuel? If it would be helpful, tomorrow I could throw a video of it running on YouTube.

Get the genuine manual. You can download it.

Pull the door card and have a look.

Could be lots of things. Get some good fuel in there and a ton of diesel fuel conditioner and give it a hard run. Them hope a lot.

Few more questions - Hood/Bonnet, Battery, Starter

Hood/Bonnet:
1. During shipping the hood latch broke off. It looks like the Stricter pin should be enough. What is the latch for, is it just back up if the striker pin releases?

2. Also to close the hood securely I need someone inside the car pulling on the release cable to align the release so the striker pin can go into the hole. Is this an adjustment or should I replace the release cable?

Battery:
The battery just slides around under the seat. Is there a bracket to hold it in place or do people just bungee it?

Starter
When I go to start the truck it makes the noise my old american car made when the starter was going bad. After 2-4 attempts it cranks over and starts. In the Defender what should I be concerned about?

Have the door card almost out but cant figure out how to get the locking mechanism to let me totally remove the door card. I thought I would ask here before breaking something. Is there some secret release?

Updates

Updates...

1. Driver window will only roll up half way - Took door card out and sprayed lithium grease on regulator, rolled it up and down a few times and now it works great. Did the same to all the regulators.

2. Poor idling - Added 5 gallons of fresh diesel and has run great since. When shipping it from the UK they drained most the diesel, so it just needed fuel.

3. Hood latch broke off - The bolts had come loose and fallen off, so added 3 new ones and works fine.

4. Starter noise - Just tightened up the battery post connections and cleaned up the ground and it seems to start fine now.
