1989 127 VIN clarification requested

I understand that pre-1990, the VINs for 127/130 were badged as 110s. Will the VIN on these older 127s also correctly reflect whether they are a crewcab 4 door vs a 2 door? I ran into a 1989 127 here in the UK that had a VIN plate indicating the letter "A" for body type (2-door)when it clearly had 4-doors/crew cab on it.

It can vary, but the several I've seen (including mine) are shown as 2-door....even if the ultimate configuration may have been 4-door. Keep in mind, these were all hand-built at Land Rover Special Vehicles (ie a small shed, literally) from the 110 chassis as you pointed out. I'm *assuming* they just supplied LRSV with a stack of standard chassis and they did the configurations custom to order...so vins would have been somewhat arbitrary.

If you'd like, pm me the details on the specific vehicle in question and I can give you my assessment of the originality of the 127 in question.
