1986 defender driver door stuck open

Door latch stuck in the open position. Door won't close. Any advice before I pull it apart?

soak it with WD40 and use a screwdriver to push the latch back in place.

Even after you free it, go back a few days later and do it again. No harm in hitting the other door to. It's just got to much grime in it
