1986 90 squeaks/chirps when in gear

Hi,

I recently picked up a 1986 90 MOD version after oggling it for some time. It just started squeaking/chirping when driving, but only when in gear and/or accelerating. As soon as I engage the clutch and take it out of gear, it subsides. Any idea what it could be? Thanks!

Soapy water / KY jelly, etc. is is basically a must. Yes, good idea to remove trim panels - only takes 5 more minutes to do so.

Thanks for the replies. The noise seems to be coming from the transmission/gearbox area, and as I mentioned, only in gear and noticeable more when in 3rd gear. If it's the slipping belt, is that an easy adjustment I can do myself? Any tips for a new guy?
