1984 110 engine question

I am looking at an 84 Defender 110. It has about 26,000 original miles and has the 2286cc petrol engine, 5 speed. I don't have much experience with Land Rovers but have driven a 76 Series III with what I assume a similar 4 cylinder engine. Can I expect much more power out of the newer motor? The SIII liked about 40mph as its top speed. I'd like to use the vehicle as my daily driver but do a 20 mile round trip (highway) into town everyday. Would expecting (wanting) 60mph as a comfortable top end cruising speed be too much to ask out of it? It is going to be a plane trip to actually take a test drive, thus the question. Thanks in advance.

Same engine. At least its the gasser not the NA diesel!
The 5 speed Lt77 is an improvement, but if power is your thing, a V8 conversion might be in your future. Personally, I'd keep the 4 cylinder until any other bugs in the Rover are dealt with. Its a simple reliable engine, if not especially powerful or economical

I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.
