1963 Registration

Hi guys,

I have a good bud that is looking to start a ground up rebuild on a 63 Series truck. He already has a frame that he bought from a guy that swapped a new one into his series. This guy is an amazing welder, so he is going to build from ground up, so what he needs is a bulk head that has tags and papers. He wants this to be legal, and he has no problem swapping the bulkheads to make sure it is all koshir. What he asked me to find out, and I am asking you guys, where can he buy a bulkhead of a similare year? He needs minimal parts, just enough to get the truck registered. Any ideas? The other owner obviously took the frame registration with him. Thanks!!

Bulkheads are very rare and few come with titles. There was a late 2a on LRX some time ago for around 500? needed repairs though.

I don't know what the DOT laws are in CA but in IL you can do whatever you like to any car over 25 years and not subject to smog testing.

What he needs to do is just get a clear VIN. Once he has that he can get a title. I have a bulkhead (needs lots of work) I don't think it has the tag on it but I can check.

I have a clear 66 vin with id tags. Off of a 2a 88. I don't have title, but do have a bill of sale. The truck was imported, and owner died before ever registering it. From what my local dmv told me, all you have to do to title the vin is to get an indemnity bond from an insurance company, about $100, to insure that the truck is legit. After a length of time, you get the money back.
